Embracing Our Role in the Great Commission

As a church, we are called to be more than just passive spectators in the mission of God. The great commission is a clear directive from Christ to take the gospel to all nations, and we believe that every believer has a part to play in that mission. This is why we are excited to invite you to join our Missions at Kossuth class, starting this November.

This class is designed to help us understand not only the biblical foundation for missions but also our church’s unique calling in fulfilling that commission. We’ll explore what it means to give gospel access to those who do not yet have it by sending and supporting preachers. Our time together will focus on three main areas each week: grounding ourselves in Scripture, discussing principles and challenges in missions, and identifying practical ways to apply what we learn.

Why Take This Class?
You may wonder, “Is missions really for me?” Absolutely. Missions is not just for those who go overseas—it’s for everyone who desires to see Christ glorified in all the earth. As a local church, Kossuth Street Baptist Church has a responsibility to thoughtfully and actively participate in the global mission. Whether you desire to be a sender, supporter, prayer warrior, or perhaps even a goer yourself, this class is for you.

We’ll be reading No Shortcut to Success by Matt Rhodes, a powerful reminder that while missions is a noble endeavor, it’s also one that requires intentionality, prayer, and perseverance.

We’ll supplement our reading with insights from other impactful resources like Let the Nations Be Glad by John Piper, Missions by Andy Johnson, and materials from the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. Additionally, we’ll discuss Kossuth’s specific resources, such as our Mission Guidance and Strategy, which help shape how we approach missions as a church family.

What to Expect Each Week
Each class session will be divided into three parts:

  1. 1. Scriptural Focus: We’ll begin with a scriptural foundation, rooting ourselves in the biblical basis for missions. This time will remind us why we are involved in the great commission and how it flows from God’s heart for the lost.
  2. 2. Discussion and Exploration: In the second part, we’ll dive into the challenges and strategies of missions. We’ll explore both the theological and practical aspects, guided by our readings and church-specific resources.
  3. 3. Application: Finally, we’ll spend time discussing how to put our learning into action, both individually and as a congregation. We want each person to leave with a clearer vision of how they can contribute to God’s mission, no matter their stage of life or vocation.

Who Should Join?
If you have a heart for missions, if you want to understand how you can be part of reaching the unreached, or if you’re simply curious about the global work of the gospel, we encourage you to join us. This class is not just for those who feel called to go but for everyone who desires to see our church fulfill its role in the great commission.

Mark Your Calendar
The Missions at Kossuth class will begin on November 3 and continue into 2025 with additional sessions in February, May, August, and November. This journey will deepen our understanding and commitment to missions, equipping us to be faithful stewards of the gospel.

We hope to see many of you there as we study, discuss, and pray together, seeking to understand how God might use Kossuth Street Baptist Church to bring the hope of Christ to those without access to the gospel.

Let’s embrace this calling together.
