Pastoral Candidate Announcement

By the Elders

Dear Kossuth Family,

This past Sunday was a big day for Kossuth. Not only did we celebrate what God has done through Salt & Light Christian Fellowship, we also began the process of bringing a Lead Pastor candidate before the church.

This summer, the elders have been hard at work reviewing submissions, interacting with applicants, and engaging with their materials. With unanimous approval from the Elders, we are excited to present Jonathan Keisling as our candidate for Lead Pastor before the congregation. Jonathan’s clarity of conviction, scripture-saturated thinking, straightforward communication, and deeply pastoral heart are striking. We believe these traits and many more will be a great fit to continue to lead us forward as a family at Kossuth as we continue to grow as disciples engaging our community and the world.

Jonathan is a graduate of Purdue with a major in math education and also received a Master’s of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He became a believer while attending Purdue under the preaching of Kossuth Street Baptist Church. In his own words, “I lived a life of outward sin and had a dramatic conversion when my best friend died. I began attending Kossuth Street Baptist Church and heard expositional Bible preaching for the first time. I can still remember the glorious truths of Ephesians 1-3 washing over me as I struggled with whether God could forgive me.”

Jonathan has faithfully served at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, first as a deacon and then as an elder. He currently serves on staff at CHBC as a Pastoral Assistant and comes with high recommendations from Mark Dever and the other pastors at Capitol Hill Baptist Church.

We are thrilled to announce that Jonathan, his wife, Abby, and daughter, Nora, will be spending time with us over the course of the next two weeks. You can interact with Jonathan and his family on the following dates:

  • September 10th Connection Hour class and sermon

  • September 13th Prayer meeting at Kossuth

  • September 15th Light Night at Crosswalk Commons

  • September 17th Connection Hour Q&A and sermon

We anticipate a congregational vote on calling Jon as Lead Pastor at the October 1 family gathering.

Read Jon’s written responses to questions we asked him here, and see Jon and Abby introduce themselves here.
