One Father

by Mikel Berger

Do you have a friend you rarely see, but when you do, it only takes five minutes of conversation to feel like you’ve spent every day of the last month together? Things click.

Last November, I wrote a blog post with this paragraph:

I want to introduce you to my friend, Quentin. If you had the opportunity to meet Quentin, I know you’d like him, too. Quentin works in sports ministry. He is a leader at his church, Central Baptist Church of Pretoria. Quentin also works at our partner in orphan care, Bethesda Outreach Ministries.

At that time, I introduced you to Quentin in a video he recorded promoting Orphan Sunday. But soon, I will get a chance to introduce you to Quentin and his wife, Leandra, in person!

I think you’re going to click with them. Like us here at Kossuth, Quentin and Leandra have devoted a lot of time to caring for orphans and vulnerable children and supporting others that do. They serve faithfully at their church and with Bethesda. The things that they do look different, but the goal is the same.

That’s because we all worship the same Father of the fatherless.

Quentin and Leandra will visit the Lafayette area from September 16-18, and we will have several opportunities for you to connect with them.

Everyone is invited to an open house at the church building on Friday, September 16, from 7:00-9:00 pm. We want to continue the partnership God has forged between Kossuth and Bethesda for decades.

Men, Quentin will be speaking during our men’s night on Saturday, September 17. (Click here to sign up!) Do not for one minute think that caring for orphaned and vulnerable children is the primary responsibility of the ladies! One man’s abdication of his fatherly responsibilities requires the rest of us to step into his place. Come together on the 17th to explore this topic more.

Quentin will be sharing about Bethesda's work during our 9:15 am Connection Hour on Sunday, September 18. Connect with the truths from scripture of God’s love for the fatherless and each other. Quentin will also share briefly during our 10:30 am worship gathering that morning.

Finally, those of you who have recently or are currently fostering or have adopted a child are invited to lunch with Quentin and Leandra immediately following the worship gathering on the 18th. Please RSVP by clicking here.

Please reach out if there’s any way I can help you and your family continue to care for the fatherless. Until then, I’ll look forward to introducing you to Quentin and Leandra next weekend!
