TEACHING REVIEW
Sunday School. This week we wrapped up our study of the parables as we watched the film about the persistent widow. We also reviewed all the parables that we studied and talked about the importance of responding to Jesus in the right way.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
Beginning on June 10, the middle and high school students will be joining the rest of the church during the 10:45 ABF hour to participate in the Paul Tripp study. (For more information about this study, click here.) This means that during those ten weeks, we will not have the regular class downstairs.
Also, I want to give you a heads-up about what we'll be doing in Sunday school over the next 3 weeks. As a (hopefully) fun and engaging way to close out the year, we're going to devote the next 3 classes to discussing and debating some controversial cultural and theological issues that teenagers should be equipped to face. Next week, Andrew Depue will lead a discussion on the sanctity of marriage, and we'll converse about how Christians should think about issues like gay marriage, divorce, remarriage, cohabitation, male headship, etc. Since marriage is something surrounded by much confusion, we hope this discussion will help students sharpen their perspective and become more biblically articulate when it comes to stating their beliefs. Obviously, we are aware of the potential for this discussion to get out-of-hand, so we'll strive to keep it age-appropriate and engage the issue from a strictly biblical perspective. If you have any questions or concerns, however, please let me know via email [dhumphrey@ksbc.net]. In the meantime, use this opportunity to talk with your child about how God expects us to think about marriage and how we can maintain these beliefs and convictions in a culture which is hostile to God's design.
HOME PRIORITIES
D.A. Carson's wise words about his own parents encourage us to be devoted to living genuinely in front of our kids and investing heavily into our homes.

SCHEDULE NOTES
A few important announcements pertaining to upcoming meetings:
- Metamorphosis will have its last "normal" meeting of the school year this Wednesday (4/25), as that is the last night of Awana. However, we'll have a game and snack night the next week (5/2) at 6:30pm to commemorate the end of the year. We'll also schedule some open gyms on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, so stay tuned for announcements about those.
- HSYG will not meet this Sunday evening (4/29), since that evening is a special dinner for our graduates. The next week will be family gathering, and the week after that is Mother's Day. So, our next regular HSYG meeting will not be until May 20.
TEACHING REVIEW
Sunday School. The parable of the shrewd manager in Luke 16 is notoriously difficult to understand. We dove into this tough text and wrestled with what Jesus is teaching through it.
Metamorphosis. Laziness is all around, but many Proverbs warn us strongly against giving into it. We studied this topic and saw how we are encouraged to be diligent, productive workers, as God has designed us to be.
A GOOD WORD FOR DADS
It seems like we've had a lot of articles for dads recently, but I came across this short reflection about how dads can make the most of their drive home after work, and I had to pass it along. Let it encourage you to think about what you'll be bringing home today.

HSYG CHANGE THIS WEEK
This coming Sunday evening, we will have NO regular HSYG meeting. Instead, high school students are invited to go out to lunch together after the 2nd service. (It's kind of like Dinner After, except it's Lunch After instead.) We will meet up in the lobby after the service and carpool to Penn Station (3540 State Road 38 E) to enjoy food together while sharing discussion oriented around the Proverbs.
I didn't get a chance to announce this on Sunday, so parents make sure to pass it along!
TEACHING REVIEW
Sunday school. We joined the other ABF classes to hear from the Hornbrooks and the Crosswalk project.
Metamorphosis. Proverbs teaches young people that how we receive discipline is a very important thing. Therefore, we should listen to God's Word and strive to receive discipline as a sign of live, as a guard against sin, as a source of knowledge, and as a remedy to foolishness.
HSYG. One of the predominant themes of Proverbs is money. We looked at this subject and saw how we are taught to think carefully about the role of money in our lives, even before we have to worry about car payments, cell phone bills, or mortgages.
DEATH-DEFYING MISSIONS
If you haven't heard about David Platt's sermon last week at the Together for the Gospel conference, then you need to. No less than John Piper declared that it "may have been the most powerful missions message I've ever heard." I encourage you to take an hour with your kids this week and watch this sermon together.

TEACHING REVIEW
Sunday School. In the parable of the great banquet in Luke 14, Jesus challenges the assumptions of those who take for granted that they are part of the kingdom just because they are involved in a certain religious tradition. The implications for "church kids" are monumental.
Metamorphosis. We took a break from the Proverbs series this week to ask and answer the question, "Why did Jesus die?" The biblical answers to this questions are surprisingly God-centered.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
The middle school and high school students will join the ABF classes this coming Sunday morning to hear from the Hornbrooks. This is a great chance for families to sit together and grow in their understanding of and love for God's global mission.
GOSPEL REQUIREMENTS & GOSPEL FRUIT
Voddie Baucham makes a helpful distinction for dads between what the gospel requires and what the gospel produces in this article. Don't confuse the two in training your kids!

NO EASTER HSYG
This coming Sunday (4/8) there will be no HSYG in the evening due to Easter. Celebrate Christ's resurrection together with friends and family!
TEACHING REVIEW
Sunday School. This week we looked at the parable of the treasure hidden in a field, and explored some of the things that this teaches us about the kingdom. If we truly understand the value of God's kingdom, then no cost will be too great to enter into it.
Metamorphosis. One of the predominant themes of Proverbs is money. We looked at this subject and saw how we are taught to think carefully about the role of money in our lives, even before we have to worry about car payments, cell phone bills, or mortgages.
THE GREATEST JOY
I thought this short video from John Piper was especially relevant in light of our study this week in Sunday School about the parable of the hidden treasure. We need not be reluctant to call our young people to great sacrifice for the sake of an even greater joy.
