"Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshipers meeting together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become 'unity' conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship. Social religion is perfected when private religion is purified." ~ A.W. Tozer (via Zach Nielsen)

Sunday Preview
We've got a jam-packed Sunday, so read carefully:
- Builders ABF - Mikel Berger will be kicking off our study on idolatry, based on Tim Keller's book Counterfeit Gods. If you've been with us during our study on true worship, this next series builds off of the idea that everybody is a worshiper - the question is, who or what do you worship?
- Christian School Forum - Also during the ABF hour, there will be a Christian school forum in the sanctuary. Although the Builders will still be meeting separately, feel free to attend this informative look at the Christian school option.
- Corporate Worship - Dave Nannery will be preaching from Phil. 3:12-16, calling us to find and follow Gospel partners who press on. We'll also celebrate the Lord's Table together.
- Family Gathering - Take note: Family Gathering will begin at 5 PM. Lee Hargitt will be presenting his ministry, followed by a time of family business and singing.
- Rummel Superbowl Party - Immediately following Family Gathering, the Builders are having a superbowl party at the Rummel residence. Here is the info from the last newsletter:
Game time is 6:15pm. We'll do the usual.....we provide chili and drinks. Those who come can bring a side or dessert (A-N = side, M-Z = dessert). We'll have the game on upstairs and Wii downstairs (sorry, no projector this year). For those who haven't been here, there's a pool table and darts available too. Also, kids welcome!
Our address is 6275 E 450 N Lafayette, IN 47905. We have brick lights on either side of our driveway and they will be on when you come. Any questions, feel free to email or call: ae.rummel@yahoo.com, 589-3703
Coffee at the Union
Thinking through what to do tonight? Here's an option, offered to you by Jared Kempson and the good folks at Salt & Light:
So every now and then, much to my delight some of you tell me that you wish you had more of a specific witnessing opportunity, or a service opportunity...
This Friday night you have the chance to do both. 7pm @ the Union we are hoping you will dig into your wallet, for the chance to build a relationship for the Gospel.
Here's the DEAL: International students will be coming to have coffee and play games with us, the idea is that "National students" (YOU) would come intentionally looking to purchase a coffee for at least one international student. (Let this also serve to solidify in your mind that this is intentional outreach.) Sit down and spend some time talking and playing games. =)
We plan to do this regularly throughout the semester, so that you can build those relationships you make.
So I'm hoping you will pray and come, with all the other things you can/could do with your Friday night I'm hoping you will choose to invest in someone else's life for the Kingdom of God.
Tolerance Vs. Love
A gentleman by the name of
Trevin Wax has written a book entitled
Holy Subversion: Allegiance to Christ in an Age of Rivals. I have not read it, and I probably won't for awhile, but this excerpt from his book pushed me closer to reading it than I was before:
"We are not merely called to tolerate those who disagree with us; we are called to love. The world’s idea of tolerance is a parody of the Christian understanding of love.
Tolerance is passive. Love is active.
Tolerance is a feeling of apathy. Love is accompanied by feelings of great affection.
Tolerance keeps people at arm’s length in hopes of not offending them. Love embraces people where they are and ‘hopes all things.’
Tolerance leaves people alone as individuals. Love ushers people into a community of generosity.
Tolerance keeps a safe distance between those in need. Love rolls up its sleeves in service even to those who may be unlikeable.
Tolerance avoids confrontation in order to maintain ‘peace.’ Love tells the truth boldly and graciously in order to bring about a deeper, more lasting peace.”
If you read the book, let me know what you think.
Amazing! Extraordinary! Amazing!
By now, you all have probably heard about Apple's newest device, the Ipad. Whether you have an opinion on it or not, some bright soul had the idea to condense Apple's keynote presentation of the device (originally over 1.5 hours) into 3 minutes. The
resulting video manages to subtly bring out Apple's opinion of the Ipad.
