It is a new year. We celebrate this time as we welcome new opportunities and perspectives. In Salt and Light, Kossuth’s college ministry, we also have a fresh start with the coming of another semester. We hope and pray that we have new opportunities on campus. This semester will also continue the work we began last semester as we invest in relationships and pursue discipleship, fellowship, and outreach on campus.

During the fall semester Stephen Weinkauf, director of Kossuth’s college ministry, took Salt & Light through passages in Luke that focused on Jesus’ interactions with people. The most evident pattern in His ministry was that He saw people, He had compassion on them, and He acted. We are called to do the same as we seek the lost on campus.

Church, please pray for our college ministry. We love each other well, and I have had the privilege of seeing this as our ministry has welcomed our new freshmen with open arms—as we have challenged each other in what it looks like to work together as the Body of Christ—as we have begun/continued friendships with non-believers so that they may grasp how wide, long, high, and deep His love is.

Pray that we would continue to direct this love and care that we have read about in Luke towards those in our classes, labs, and respective living areas. Spring semester is a great time to deepen the relationships that we have with those on campus, as there are tens of thousands of students who don’t call Him Lord. And we as a college ministry get to love them with a love that comes from Christ. Pray that we would be bold, urgent, and loving as we share the gospel to those who still live in darkness. And please pray that those still under the wrath of God would be receptive to the gospel as they hear it and see it lived out on campus.

    A more condensed list:

    • Pray for Abraham and Stephen. That they would be wise and discerning, being faithful to God and His Word, as they lead and disciple students to Christ.
    • Pray for the Student Leaders: BJ, Rebecca, Marie, and Rory.
    • Pray for the Students: Both in SLCF and campus-wide.
    • Pray for the advancement of the Gospel.
    • Pray for the growth of His kingdom.

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” (Colossians 1:9-12)
